RAVENSCROFT U16 BOYS TOUR

November 18, 2019

Ravenscroft U16 Boys travelled to Horsham to take part in the England Hockey Tier 2 Championships Report by Joe Cashin

Our first match commenced on Sunday the 16th of November at Christ Hospital School against Horsham. The first half started slowly for Guernsey after an early start that morning, we scored the first goal in the first half by Peter Birch getting a rebound from the keeper on short corner taken by Zac Taylor with good work by Charlie Clapham and Josh Saunders at the top of the D.

Half time score 1-0 to Guernsey, the second half saw Horsham get back into the match however Guernsey managed to get another goal making it 2-0 this was by Zac Taylor who made a quick run down the right and travelled along their base line and made a firm pass to Charlie Clapham who had a deflected shot on goal, then Josh Saunders went for the rebound and slapped the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the goal.

However, with about ten minutes go Horsham had a rare break into the Guernsey D and slotted the ball past Jack Webber who had previously made some fine saves to keep Guernsey ahead.

Guernsey’s second and final match was against Brighton Hockey Club, after a short break we went into this match with more confidence than the last. In the first half of the match Guernsey inflicted the first goal with a quick reverse from Charlie Clapham from open play making it 1-0. After a lot of defence work from the Guernsey side in the first half and the beginning of the second half Brighton managed to weave through the defenders and draw the match with little time to go.

Guernsey had some strong link up play from the back starting from Theo Swainston and Joseph Cashin up to the midfield with Adam De La Mere, Louis Steyn and Will Rouget which greatly helped in the creation of our goals.

As Brighton and Horshsm drew the final match of the day it meant that Guernsey topped the group. The next round is in February 2020.

Steven Eulankamp Coached and great thanks to our sponsor Ravenscroft for making this trip possible.
