RG Falla outreach tournament
From September onwards Mike Kinder and Katy Taylor have been visiting schools introducing year 5 and 6 pupils to the game of hockey.
At the end of the season schools are invited along to battle it out for the G Falla outreach tournament trophy.
This year 9 schools entered and we were blessed with lovely weather and some great hockey.
There was great team work and spirit showed by all sides . For many it was their first experience of competitive hockey but there were some more experienced players dotted amongst the teams.
There was some exceptional close games and we had to resort to penalty pushes to sort our semi finalists- Vauvert won the penalties but were edged out by Hougette in the semi final.
Le Mare and St Martins had a very close semi final which again had to be decided on penalties….
In the final Hougette battled hard but St Martins increased the pressure and the skill of some of their more experienced players showed through as they eased away to win 4-0.
Trophies and medals were presented by Paul Mason and Dean Winsall from RG Falla.
All in all a great day of hockey.
It’s not all about the winning but it was lovely to hear a girl from Hougette say with wonder in her voice “’Ive never won a medal for anything before”
Our huge thanks go firstly to the children who were a real credit to their schools, secondly to their teachers for bringing them in their own time – and lastly but very importantly to RG Falla for their sponsorship of the outreach programme.
